The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently launched an effort with more than 1,000 local Chambers of Commerce, business associations, and companies of all sizes in sending a letter to Congress calling for a repeal of the 1099 reporting mandate included in the new health care law. This tax filing requirement imposes a substantial burden on nonprofits, governments, and especially small businesses.

Take Advantage of Expanded Net Operating Loss Opportunities!

The Worker, Homeownership, and Business Assistance Act of 2009 ("WHBAA") provided a Net Operating Loss ("NOL") carry back provision for up to 5 years for NOLs incurred in either 2008 or 2009. WHBAA serves to expand not only the pool of eligible taxpayers, but also to extend the tax years at issue; where the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) was limited to NOLs incurred in 2008, WHBAA applies to NOLs incurred in 2008 and 2009.
This means virtually all taxpayers who suffered large business losses in 2008 and/or 2009, given the state of the economy, can use losses to offset income earned before the recessionary effects were felt. This can provide a much needed cash infusion by generating a refund of taxes already paid
