Microsoft Windows Vista may adversely affect your QuickBooks programs

If you are considering the implemention of Microsoft's new Windows Vista, and you utilize QuickBooks for your accounting, you need to be aware of the potential adverse effects the new operating system may have on your existing program. Microsoft has made siginificant changes to how software runs on Windows Vista. Because QuickBooks 2006 (and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 6.0) and earlier versions were developed and released before the introduction of Windows Vista, these versions may be adversely affected when used on a computer running Windows Vista. This will impact 2006 and previous versions of Simple Start, Basic, Pro, Premier, Payroll and Point of Sale, as well as other QuickBooks products and services.

What to do if you do NOT upgrade to Windows Vista
No action is required. If you plan to stay with your existing Windows operating system (for example, Windows XP or Windows 2000), you can continue to use your current versions of QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions software and other related QuickBooks products.

What to do if you choose to upgrade to Windows Vista
If you use Enterprise Solutions and have an active Full Service Plan subscription, as part of the benefits of the plan, you should have received Enterprise Solutions 7.0. If you do not have a current Full Service Plan subscription or use another version of QuickBooks, it is recommended that you upgrade to QuickBooks 2007 or Enterprise Solutions 7.0.

Following is the list of QuickBooks Products that will work with Windows Vista:

  • QuickBooks Simple Start 2007
  • QuickBooks Pro 2007
  • QuickBooks Premier 2007, including the following editions: Accountant, Contractor, Manufacturing and Wholesale, Nonprofit, Professional Services, Retail
  • QuickBooks Enterprise 7.0, including the following editions: Accountant, Contractor, Manufacturing and Wholesale, Nonprofit, Professional Services, Retail
  • Fixed Asset Manager, when used with Premier Accountant Edition 2007 or Enterprise Solutions 7.0
  • QuickBooks Financial Statement Designer, when used with Premier Accountant Edition 2007 or Enterprise Solutions 7.0
  • QuickBooks Online Edition
  • QuickBooks Point of Sale 6.0 Software and Hardware: Point of Sale-approved hardware will work with Vista, but may require updated hardware drivers.
  • QuickBooks Invoice Manager 2.0
  • Important Note: QuickBooks Payroll Services (Standard, Enhanced and Assisted) will only work on a Windows Vista computer if you are using QuickBooks 2007 or QuickBooks Enterprise 7.0 versions. Payroll services will not download or work properly if you are using earlier versions of QuickBooks on Windows Vista.

Additional services that will not work with Windows Vista include:

    • Remote Access powered by WebEx does not currently work on Windows Vista, even if you are using QuickBooks 2007. Intuit hopes to have a solution in early spring.
    • Payroll Premier Payroll PC Access
    • QuickPayroll
